ASM (A State of Mind) 9-fiddy-Number. ft. Fredo

This one was a minute ago (2010!) “The 9-Fiddy Number” – a beat I was producing, over a couple of years, with the great musicians I had around me at the time. The beat had another soulful female vocal version, but ASM were keen for it to appear on their “Platypus Funk” album, which featured other producers like Bonobo, Vadim and Wax Tailor. Being fans of the lads, and hearing what they did with it, which was so much fun, I still enjoy hearing this come on.

It’s a homage to my love of dirty, dry funk sounds, but also modern glitch in there too – and Green T and FP – ASM doing their thing on the mic. Green T named it, I think, with a nod to the classic – 900 number – for my use of baritone Sax, originally just a sample, then played by my old mate the amazing Marco Bernardis. Made in a dodgy sounding room with Mackie monitors, testament to – it aint what you got, it’s what you do with it. Listen up in the music player.
